instead of running these horribly structured bingo tournamnets on thursday and wednesday why dont you run one on sunday that lasts from 3 or 4 or whenever the fuck that joint opens til whenever the fuck that joint closes?
we desire better structures.
i have suggested a saturday once a month tourney for quite some time, but i realize that would make a lot of extra work for you...so im now suggesting sundays which may be easier since you already have to deal with a bunch of donks then.
your thoughts?
ideas... a 10 dollar rebuy! seriously, rebuy tournamnets kick ass. a 50 dollar freezeout, i think its actually less likely to get people, but whatever. i think rebuys are right up bps alley.
plz to start with 100xbb+ and have blinds slowly increase....30 minute levlels we can deal with, but doubling the blinds from one round to the next is absurd.
I concur with this for many a reason: 1)Instead of having to jam in the tournament in 5 hours it could last for 8 hours if it has to. You may say that some people don't want to stay that long for a tournament, but there's many a people who stay that long to play in cash games and the freeroll, so I really don't think this would be that much of a deterent. And if you're worried about it, why don't you start the tourney at 3 like you used to, as this not only benefits this tourney but the freeroll as well.
2) Having it on Sundays allows for a much better structure, where actual poker can be played opposed to these other tourneys where it turns into a shovefest after 3 hours.
3) There'd be a much bigger prizepool which would make it worthy of peoples time, as Sundays tend to be one of the busier days at BP, not only for the freeroll but for cash games as well. For as small of fields you're getting during the week it's really frustrating to make such a small amount of money, especially when it's decided majoritatively by luck once your reach the final table.
I propose you start something like you used to run on Sundays at Dream Lanes back in the day, a $10 to $20 rebuy. That tourney used to draw a good 30+ players, had a good structure and nice sized prize pool ( I think when I won it was something in the neighborhood of $500+). If you'd like I can come up with a structure that I think will best fit this tournament in terms of being fair but yet quick enough where its not lasting too long.
Here's 7.5 hours of a tourney structure, I have to admit this is a pretty slow structure, but I think that its a good start as adjustments can be made for the number of players and the amount of rebuys/addons. I thnk a good addition to this would be to add antes, as this is how real poker tournaments work and it helps to speed up the tourney if it seems to be lagging, so I will add where I potentially see antes taking place.
This may be a bit slow for a tourney like a 10 rebuy, though I think it would draw the most players and have a pretty nice prize pool. Plus, your average rebuy donk will gladly blow through 100+BB with pretty marginal hands, so this really allows for more poker and benefits players with a better understanding of tourney structure. I think with a better structure it would draw more players as well. If you wanted to implement this structure into a freezout, I would suggest making it a $30-$50 tourney, or even one sunday a month throwing in a bigger buy in like $100. These things can all be schedueled, maybe one Sunday a rebuy the next being a freezout. You could easily adapt this structure to a freezout though, just start with 10,000 in chips. For a $100 start with 15,000 to allow for extra play since it is a higher buy in.
i dislike antes. its hard enough to get people to act in turn and deal the cards properly. i dont like the idea of people getting confused as to who put the ante in, its just one more thing that distracts the braindead.
but, there are obvious pros to having antes. like it forces more action..
OK, we can do that. I will have to respectively disagree with your diagnosis of the Wed and Thur tourneys however. For the 18-24 players we normally get, the blinds are fine and it is not a push/luck fest at the end. Other than Andy K-Fed Kalin winning last week, the players that are making the money are good solid players and there is simply not all-ins every hand as you desribe.
I would prefer a single buy-in tournament as opposed to a re-buy, because re-buys are more work for me. But I would not be opposed to running either format or even a rotating schedule. I also think you guys might be over estimating the number of players that will play. When I started the $30, everyone was pumped for it and said they would play every week. We got 40 players the first week. Now we get around 20. I would expect the same thing to happen on sundays. Formats can be figured out easily. The blinds might be somewhat dependant on the number of players as well, so don't get to hung up on them now.
Can't start this week as its the TOC on Sunday, but maybe the following Sunday...
Yes, thank you for at least taking it under consideration. If it doesn't work than it can be scrapped, I just thought it would be a good idea to have a tournament with a bit more play, and Sundays seems like a good day to do it.
STRONGLY disagree about the no ante thing. Are you insane? Thats where good players build mountains of chips, please god scotty throw an ante in after the 4th level. That tourny would be the nuts then. So loose weak idiots at bp you wouldnt find many bad players winning if theres an ante witha good structure, then again who am I kidding, kfed wins the fucking rebuy every week
