Posted By: BVII don't understand your argument here, Peter. Your argument with a change in Heath's game is that you can only use it at the BP 1/2 game table. Well...I know Heath reasonably well, granted I am not writing his biography but one of the only places he plays live is the BP 1/2 game so why not tailor your game to that particular setting? I have played with him at Ho-chunk before and his game is suited for these two arenas because people have no memories and don't fold, tight players feast on these idiots. That doesn't mean your game has gotten worse, that just means you understand your surroundings. I'm not saying that Heath has a million gears and is some mad poker genius, but he's frequently underestimated, and is a winning player which is more than I can say for almost anyone else in that game. Nothing to me more hilarious than someone coming into a 1/2 game at ho-chunk and using a bunch of metagame (MEEEEEETAAAAAAGAAAAAAAME, that was for you Dawg) and setting up all these creative plays. Just play your hands, don't slowplay monsters very often and bluff carefully, only c-bet against small fields and certain board textures and you'll be fine. Of course there's bad beats too but...fuck.Ben you make great points. Its the big game and the kiddie game. I do get annoyed tho when a 1/2 regular sits at the 25/50 game and acts like it is inconviencing him/her. Damn I wanna play monopoly but I might get pissed and throw the community chest cards after dawg takes half my stack when a land on his baltic ave with 4 hotels. Wait I can play I am banned from poker not monopoly. Ifn ya'all will have me. Btw is it just me that has had thoughts Peter=Scotty?
The overall point I'm making here is I guess I just don't really like calling out someone for having a collapsing game when you won't even say who the hell you are. I find it highly likely that your opinion on poker is probably irrelevant anyway, until you prove me wrong...because as you have said, there's just so many damn idiots out there when it comes to this game. I am by no means calling myself a pro, keep in mind. I have a lot of improving to do.
I don't mean this as a personal attack, because there is no person to attack! The whole hidden forum name thing is occasionally funny as a gimmick, but when you want to have serious conversation, I just think it's hilariously stupid. I can't really take this seriously. Of course I can't take the BP forum serious in general so...oh well.
There are few bigger critics of the big game's players, (with some exceptions) and its effect on BP than me (I play it it once upon a blue moon because I think it's really easy to beat), but people aren't calling it the big game in an ultra serious context. It's almost always referred to as the big game in quotes for a reason, because people understand the humor in that. There are some players in it that think that they are big shots just because they sit there, but I don't think any of them are in this thread.
Now I'm going to bed.
Oh, and who is ready for monopoly night at BP a week from this Friday? I haven't been there in a while, but I think what they need is a bunch of drunk guys yellin' about "those goddamn red properties".
Posted By: JohnnyXThanks for the support, Ben. I have always held your opinions about poker in high regard and have much respect for your game.Kudos to Heath. Well said sir. I call it the kiddie table for the reasons Scuba states. I also call it the cool kids table. Do I think everyone there is cool? Not in the least. I want the so called big game players looking at it as an inconvience. I cant tell you how many times Ive seen some semi-regular 1/2 player come and drop 100 to 150 there then get up and leave that money on the table to go play 1/2. I cant tell you how many times Ive seen one of those same players call 10 on the turn with a gut shot because "It's only 10 dollars. Its more than that at the 1/2 table preflop." And I cant believe this but I am about the agree with areaman. Playing the 25/50 every night is exasperating. I play there simply because I can not afford to sit down with 600 at the 1/2 table. Which is what I figure I need to sit down there all night. I think I may be a calmer person at the 25/50 table if I didnt have to put up with 3/4 of the table not knowing the action was on them. Hence me coining the term "If you dont know where the action is and everyone is looking at you pretty good chance its on you." 3/4 of the table having figured out the action is on them having to be told how much it is to call. And then when they limp in only to be told there is a straddle and listening to "who straddled" 80 times a night. "The only person that can."people who can obviously see you are in a hand walking up and call your name 15 times with no answer because they want to know where they are on the list. Or someone walking in at 10 o clock seeing an open seat and assuming we have been keeping it open just for them all night and that there is no list. Add all that shit up then lose your stack to a two outter on the river and try to take it all in stride. Its tough. Now no one makes me bank. I started doing it because no one else wanted to. Hell before I got kicked out the first time Harry refused to bank. I think he also started doing it out of the need for someone anyone to do it so he could play.
Do you see how that works, Peter Pan? I know who Ben is. Ben knows who I am. We have played together. We have history, so if one of us says something about the other's game or a particular play, positive or negative, we can take into consideration whether or not we think the source is worthy of consideration. I remember one night playing at the .25/.50 table when Fisherman Hat Lee said quite sincerely to Dave "The Phenom" Racz, "You're a good player." Well, the table burst out into laughter. Poor Dave. It wouldn't matter if he was the best or the second worst player at the table. The source for such a ringing endorsement ends up making it damnable at best. Who is Peter Pan? Is he David Sklansky or is he Fisherman Hat Lee? He seems to have an adequate amount of knowledge about who some of the BP players are and the various games, but I for one, can't really grant much validity to what amounts to less than hearsay from an anonymous poster. If it's true though, and there is some sort of general opinion that my game has worsened, I truly hope the rumor spreads. Hell, I will wear the "I play bad" t-shirt myself.
As far as the term "the big game," I included it in quotes for reasons of self deprecation. One could argue that it truly is the big game simply from the standpoint that it is the big game at BP, and there would be nothing wrong with that argument. I try to keep it in perspective though, not that I've played any bigger than 1-2 yet in this early stage of my poker career, but one man's big game is another man's penny ante. I use equal parts humor when I refer to the .25/.50 as the kiddie table or use the term "slumming it." Hell, Frank uses that term himself, and he runs that show when he isn't banned. Also, Frank, as far as your perception that when some of "the big game" players slum it at the kiddie table, they seem to consider it an inconvenience, I do not doubt that there is foundation for that. Most of the time, they're already pissed off that they didn't get a seat in the big game so this is going to be automatic. Also, I think some of the time, since they play the big game, they may not give any credit to the game of any of the .25/.50 players. This is a mistake in my opinion. There are good and bad players at both levels. Speaking for myself only though, I have in the past considered it an inconvenience since I have become spoiled by having a dealer and having a game that is run in a pretty professional manner given the context. Sometimes at the .25/.50 watching a particular person deal or even play (i.e. Fisherman Hat Lee -- GREEN LIGHT LEE!!!!) makes me want to gouge my eyes out. I wish I were a better person than that and could accept those limitations, but I'm definitely not.
