    If I try to quote a post from a previous page, I receive an error, and the quoted text does not appear in the "Enter your comments" window. For example, if a thread is 4 pages long, and I try to quote a post on page 3, it is not possible. I believe this is because the "Enter your comments" text box does not appear at the bottom of any page in a discussion thread except for the last page.

    Action: Click quote link on any page but last page of discussion.
    Result: "Error on Page" in lower left corner of IE status bar.
    Details:
    Line: 20
    Char: 4
    Error: Object required
    Code: 0
    URL: <http://bptalk.com/poker-forum/discussion/122/3>

    Browser: IE 6.0
    Windows XP Pro 2002 SP2

    Yep, that's the workaround. Anyone else who is having the issue, feel free to add their browser and OS versions to this thread. I think it's probably a global problem though. It looks like a javascript error to me.

    Yes Johnny. The problem is exaclty what you guessd earlier. The Javascript expects the comment box to be on the page you are quoting from. And the box is missing for previous pages.

    If anyone responsible for the site is readin and or caring about this, here is the offending code:

    var commentField = document.getElementById("CommentBox");

    the variable commentField is null when quoting form previous pages. DUH !!!!!!!

    Scuba, how did you interrogate the .js? I was trying to figure out a way to do that. I'm not a web programmer by trade, so I don't know the ins and outs of that beyond view -> source.

    Javascript doesnt necessarily have to be in a .js file. But what i did here was use visual studio to debug. There are many light-weight ways to debug javascript. Mozilla has extensions for the FireFox browser that debug javascript. One enxtension is called FireBug, which is free. Just google "javascript debuggers". But once you have a suitable debugger, set ur browser options to allow debugging. for IE it is: Tools-->Internet Options-->Advanced--> Deselect this option--> Disable script debugging(Internet Explorer)
