Has anyone else read about this? It kinda makes you wonder about the credibility of online poker software in general. Purportedly Russ Hamilton, a former WSOP winner and owner of U.B., was linked to accounts at Ultimate Bet which were using softwares to read peoples cards in the high limit games, and using this information to steal their money. So called superusers. Google it, or heres a link:

Same thing that happened with AP and POTRIPPER, coincidence that the owners are the same?

    F UB, F AP.

Pokerstars and Full Tilt are the only legitimate sites people should be putting money on.

They can see your hole cards. This is why it's important to paint your windows black and wear your tinfoil helmet.

Poker sites with security breaches and cheats is old news man

Actually this is an ongoing story, updates of which are printed in both Poker Player newspaper and on the internet. It seems as though a reasonably intelligent discussion is next to impossible on this forum? I am however curious why areaman considers FullTilt and PokerStars to be of merit.

well stars has proven time and time again to crack down on cheaters. people who collude, people who mutliaccount, people who play under age, all have had accounts frozen and have been boot off the site. they have inforced rules from the beginning. UB hasnt froze anyones account and thrown anyone out, and multiple accounts are well known for everyone. stars is extremely strict when it comes to rules and their players. if someone spots collusion, its reported and stars immediatley looks into it. they take this shit seriously. next time someone at the table makes a funny play i urge you to send it to stars support just so you can feel better about all that stars is willing to go through to have your rake.

in general, stars is the only site worth a shit. ftp is ok, but i certainly wouldnt expect to get the customer service you do at stars.

Bingomon, don't mind Scuba (DodgingDonkeys). He just lost his "Online Poker Legend" T-shirt and is quite pissed off.

This story has been around for a while though, and the UB scam is pretty much the same MO as the Absolute scam. Someone on the inside had access to a superuser account and then did not use it discreetly. If only the cheaters had been discreet, they could have slowly milked thousands every month.

I have reported collusion on Pokerstars....and they looked into it and reported that the people I was curious about had never played in a tournament before....

I was seeing things like two people with _AZ on the end of their screen name....they kept overbetting pots...one would win then the other....then another person stepped in, and they would bet a pot through the river, then fold...nothing too strange about that. Then one of them heavy bet through the river to this third person a couple of times, the third person went all in, and took it down with a much stronger hand. The last time the cards were shown, and the one _AZ fellow had something that was a 1 or two outer, and caught it on the river, the third person had a set going into the river....

As this had played out, it seemed the two _AZ guys were trying to build stacks to hand over to the third guy on a good hand....which aint' a bad way to get your chosen horse through the early parts of a tournament...

There was more to it which I don't recall, but PStars said they had no evidence, so I guess it was just terrible players...

The issue is very simple. And the issue has been around for some time. Poker sites are not regulated by any authority. There is a "fake" commission here and there, but no real authority to audit online poker security and software. That being said, online poker is a PLAY AT YOUR OWN RISK venture. You might think sites like PStars that appear to invesitgate fair play are "safe", but how can you possibly tell. the biggest risk isn't other donkeys that play at your .10/.20 rings game trying to cheat, the biggest risk is exploitable "flaws" in software that compromise fair play. (flaws in quotes because i think its by design). Super accounts and many other ways to cheat can and do exist. the cheaters own the game. And only the idiots are getting caught.

Now, Is there any reason to believe that other sites other than UB and AP have design "flaws" to allow the owners to cheat? Nope. Do I Have any reason to believe that there aren't? no way. I have a BIG reason to assume there is other cheating sites though. It is the nature of business in this world. OPPORTUNITY. A super user account can make tons of money, and is so very hard to catch. So why wouldnt they cheat? I remember talk on online poker forums before the AP scandal. They ridiculed players that accused sites of cheating. Their only defense of these site, "Why would they risk their business to cheat?". Well sir, when they are completely unregulated, and odds of discovery are very remote, and alot of money can be made by an individual who was smart enough to not get caught, and if by chance, they did get caught you can use the "rogue employee" defense, and all is good again. I would have to say you are on the naive side of life if you want to believe that UB and AP are the only sites that cheat their customers. I have a bridge to sell you too.
